Gallerie degli Uffizi, Firenze – Accord international pour la numérisation des œuvres lapidaires

Un accord vient d’être signé entre les Galleries des Uffizi et l’Université de l’Indiana (USA) pour la numérisation des œuvres lapidaires grecques et romaines contenues dans les collections du musée.

Le projet concerne environ 1260 œuvres, regroupant statues, sarcophages et stèles. La numérisation sera effectuée dans un but scientifique et de divulgation avec la publication des modèles sur diverses plateformes en ligne et internes (site du MIBACT, site des Uffizi et site du Virtual World Heritage Laboratory).

Le projet sera coordonné par Bernard Frischer, professeur d’informatique à l’Université de l’Indiana, directeur du Virtual World Heritage Laboratory de l’Université et expert en archéologie virtuelle, et par Fabrizio Paolucci, conservateur des œuvres antiques classiques de la Gallerie degli Uffizi.
L’opération recevra également le soutient du Politecnico de Milan, avec une équipe guidée par le professeur Gabriele Guidi (pour la partie technique), et l’Università di Firenze, avec un autre groupe guidé par le professeur Paolo Liverani (pour la partie Sciences Humaines et Sociales).
Différentes formations seront organisées pour les étudiants et chercheurs durant les campagnes d’acquisition.

Le projet devrait se terminer pour 2020 avec la mise en ligne des modèles 3D.

Il progetto riguarderà 1260 opere, contando statue, sarcofaghi ed are. All’operazione forniranno il loro sostegno anche il Politecnico di Milano, con un team guidato dal professor Gabriele Guidi (per l’ambito tecnico), e l’Università di Firenze, con un gruppo di lavoro coordinato dal professor Paolo Liverani (per l’ambito umanistico).
Diversi corsi verrano organizzati per i studenti e ricercatori durante i periodi di aquisizione.

Il progetto dovrebbe arrivare al termine del 2020 colla pubblicazione online di modelli 3D.

A contract was signed between the Gallerie degli Uffizi (Firenze, Italy) and the Indiana University (USA) for a digital survey of the stone art of the museum.

The project should concern about 1260 masterpieces, including statues, sarcophagus and stelas. Le digitalization will be done with a scientific and an information purposes with the release of the 3D models online on various paltforms, such as the website of the MIBACT, the website of the Uffizi museum, and the website of the Virtual World Heritage Laboratory.

The project will be coordinated by Bernard Frischer, computer sciences professor at the Indiana University, director of the Virtual World Heritage Laboratory of the Indiana University and expert in virtual archaeology, and by Fabrizio Paolucci, curator of the classical antiquities in the Gallerie degli Uffizi.

The project will also receive the support of the Politenico di Milano, with a team guided by the professor Gabriele Guidi (for the technical part), and the Università di Firenze, with another group guided by the professor Paolo Liverani (for the Humanities part).

The project should end by 2020 with the online versions of the 3D models.

Different courses and formations will be held for students and scientists along the different parts of the project.

The candidate’s tenure home in either the Department of Anthropology or the Department of History will be determined at the time of appointment.
The Center for Virtualization and Applied Spatial Technologies (CVAST) is an interdisciplinary unit tasked with creating an integrated approach for digital research and education efforts at the University of South Florida. CVAST is also a global center for research and the application of digital techniques to science and humanities research with projects throughout Europe, Latin America, North America, and the Arctic. The successful candidate will be assigned to CVAST with a two course per year teaching load in the home Department. The candidate will be expected to pursue international digital projects, funding, and publication, and will be expected to participate and contribute to the Center’s new $9.6 million Hitz Project for Advanced Virtualization, Education and the Democratization of Science. Overseas travel and research required.

Minimum Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Anthropology, Archaeology, Heritage, History, or related discipline is required. The candidate will have expertise in some aspects of virtual reality, 3D laser scanning, LIDAR, visualization, photogrammetry or other novel techniques as applied to field and online research and education, a publication record, and the ability to generate external funding.
